The No Surprises Act
Understanding the No Surprises Act: What It Means for Your Therapy Sessions
At Padera Therapy and Wellness, we believe in clarity and transparency when it comes to your mental health care. That’s why we want to keep you informed about the No Surprises Act, a vital piece of legislation designed to protect you from unexpected medical bills.
Effective January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act aims to shield you from surprise out-of-network charges that can occur when you receive emergency care or services from out-of-network providers without your prior knowledge. This law ensures that you only pay in-network rates for emergency services and for certain non-emergency care when you’re inadvertently treated by out-of-network professionals.
What This Means for You:
Clear Communication: We'll provide detailed information about your costs upfront, so there are no surprises about your financial responsibilities.
Good Faith Estimates: Before your initial therapy session, we will give you a Good Faith Estimate of the expected costs. This estimate will outline the anticipated charges based on your planned treatment, so you have a clear understanding of your financial commitment.
Fair Billing: We adhere to the law’s regulations, ensuring that your out-of-pocket costs are transparent and reasonable.
Disputing Unexpected Charges: If you receive a bill that exceeds the Good Faith Estimate by $400 or more, you have the right to dispute it. The No Surprises Act provides a mechanism for addressing such discrepancies. Here’s what you should do:
Review the Bill: Compare the final bill to your Good Faith Estimate to ensure the charges align.
Contact Us: Reach out to our billing department to discuss the discrepancy. We’re committed to resolving any issues quickly and fairly.
Formal Dispute: If we’re unable to resolve the issue to your satisfaction, you have the option to file a formal dispute through your insurance company or a third-party mediator.
Your mental health journey should be about healing, not navigating unexpected bills. At Padera Therapy and Wellness, we’re committed to providing you with a straightforward and supportive experience. If you have any questions about how the No Surprises Act affects your therapy sessions, your Good Faith Estimate, or disputing unexpected charges, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help!
