Therapy for teens 13+, adults & couples

Bria Williams-Roby

I recognize that every experience—both the joyful and the challenging—has contributed to the unique person you are today. Therapy with me should feel like two people meeting for coffee or tea. Working from a multicultural, trauma-informed lens, I am deeply passionate about serving teens, adults and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, women’s health issues, low self-esteem, poor boundaries, ADHD and communication issues. As a doula, I am passionate about supporting pregnant and new mothers. I also enjoy working with BIPOC and/or marginalized groups, including formerly incarcerated people and seniors.

My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, in control, and safe. I will guide you in separating your identity from your symptoms, allowing you to reclaim your power. I use a narrative approach, believing that you are the author of your own life. Everyone has a story, and I empower my clients to rewrite theirs.

As a Black woman, I am committed to promoting diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion for BIPOC communities.

About Me:
In my free time, I enjoy cuddling with my dogs, reading, binge-watching shows, watching movies, listening to music, practicing yoga and Pilates, strength training, and spending time with family/friends, and my partner.

Education:
Master’s in Education in Clinical Mental Health, DePaul University
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, DePaul University

What would you say to someone considering therapy with you?

Everyone has a story, and I empower my clients to rewrite theirs. I recognize that every experience—both the joyful and the challenging—has contributed to the unique person you are today. I view our early attachment bonds as the blueprint of your story, and I help you understand that foundation to create a new, secure future.

How do clients describe you?

Empathetic, genuine and a great listener.

Who is your ideal client?

Working from a multicultural, trauma-informed lens, I am deeply passionate about serving BIPOC communities. As a Black woman, I am committed to promoting diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion.

What does a typical session with you look like?

A client can expect to be in a chill environment, like two people meeting for coffee or tea. I believe the client is the professional of their own life, and I am there to empower them. A client can expect to laugh, cry, and be their authentic self.

Bria’s Approach

My goal is to create a space where clients feel heard, in control, and safe. By exploring meaning and helping clients understand their worldview, I guide them in separating their identity from their symptoms, allowing them to reclaim their power. I use a narrative approach, believing that clients are the authors of their own lives. I also work from an attachment lens. I view our early attachment bonds as the blueprint of your story, and I help you understand that foundation to create a new, secure future and shift the narrative in a way that benefits them.

  • Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) addresses the mental health needs of people suffering from the destructive effects of early trauma.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a humanistic, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy, drawing primarily from attachment theory to facilitate the creation of secure, vibrant connection with self and others.

  • An attachment-based approach looks at the connection between a person’s early attachment experiences with primary caregivers - and the person’s ability to develop normally and ultimately form healthy emotional and physical relationships as an adult.

  • Motivational interviewing helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior.
